Kuta, Lombok has long attracted surfers and independent backpackers. But there’s another growing trend coming through now: the traveller who doesn't want to let their fitness slide while they're here. They still want the waves, the sunsets, and the slower pace. But they’d like a Pilates or Hyrox class while they’re here.

And the fitness scene here is growing at a rapid pace to try to keep up with that demand. Sometimes it’s hard for us to keep up with! We’ve been visiting Kuta for two years and have tried almost everything on this list. New studios are opening, run clubs are launching, and recovery culture is taking hold in a way that feels less like a trend and more like a permanent shift in what Kuta is becoming.

We update this page regularly (sometimes weekly, that's genuinely how fast things move here), so if you're planning a trip and want to know what's actually on the ground, you're in the right place. Below you'll find an overview of every fitness category in town, with links to our full dedicated guides where we've gone into the detail.

Yoga in Kuta, Lombok

Yoga has been part of Kuta's identity for years, and the options have only improved. Mana Retreat remains the anchor. It’s an eco-retreat centre in the heart of town with four to five classes a day, a cafe, a pool, and a genuinely beautiful setting. For something more dramatic, Ashtari sits high above Kuta with sweeping coastal views and a schedule of classes to match. More recently, Rascals has built one of the most impressive dedicated shalas in town, with three classes a day, expert instructors, and an incredible recovery space that can be booked alongside your class. XenoFit also offers yoga as part of their membership for those after something more casual.

Pilates in Kuta, Lombok

This is arguably where Kuta's fitness scene has grown the most in the past year. Maru was the first dedicated reformer studio in town and has evolved into one of the most complete offerings around, with a levelled class structure that now includes advanced sessions for experienced practitioners. The Slow Studio brings a considered, specialist approach to reformer with themed classes and a recovery centre on site. Panass adds energy and community to the mix, with a cafe, dance classes for adults and children, and a fun atmosphere that makes it feel like more than just a workout. Mat Pilates is also available at Mana Retreat, Rascals, and XenoFit.

Gyms in Kuta, Lombok

There is now a gym in Kuta for every type of trainer and every budget. Loka is the social hub with classes, a cafe, and a recovery centre with three ice plunge pools and a magnesium salt pool. XenoFit is the CrossFit and Hyrox destination, built in bamboo and packed with classes. VIP Gym is the quiet, weights-focused option for those who want brand new equipment and no group sessions interrupting the floor. Bumblebee is the budget pick at 35,000 IDR a visit. Fitness Queen is women-only, air-conditioned, and includes daily morning classes. The Central Gym rounds things out as a well-priced local option.

Run Clubs & Walk Clubs in Kuta, Lombok

The running community in Kuta has taken off. There are now multiple clubs operating across the week, something that would have been unthinkable even a year ago. Current status is Bara on Tuesday, Soma on Wednesday, Milk Espresso on Thursday, and Xeno on Saturday. Soma finishes with a complimentary recovery session (sauna, hot plunge, cold plunge), which might be the most compelling post-run offer in town. There’s also Stride Lombok, which is offering a variety of morning and evening options. Finally, we’ve now got two walk clubs with Sonak and Serembi, for those who prefer their morning exercise at a more sociable pace.

Padel in Kuta, Lombok

Kuta doesn't have a tennis court, but it does have padel, and the scene is growing. La Reunion Padel Club is the original, with shaded courts, full equipment rental, and a social calendar that includes tournaments and casual group games. It's a great way to meet people and a fun alternative on days when the surf isn't playing ball.

More options are on the way: La Liga is set to open in 2027, and the padel scene here looks set to expand considerably over the next couple of years. Watch this space.

Hiking Mount Rinjani

For those who want the ultimate physical challenge while they're in Lombok, Mount Rinjani delivers. Available as a range of multi-day hiking options, this is not a casual undertaking; many hikers rate it among the hardest hikes they've ever done. Make sure you're in good shape before you go, and book with a reputable operator.

We recommend Green Rinjani, who focus on responsible tourism by removing rubbish from the trail and planting trees for every participant. You'll feel the effort long after you're back in Kuta.

For an easier option, with epic views of Mount Rinjani, check out Pergasingan Hike. It can be done for a sunrise hike in a single morning and you’ll be back in time for breakfast.

A Note on Keeping Up

We won't pretend this list is ever truly finished. We've been coming to Kuta for two years and have visited almost every venue here ourselves, but new things open so regularly that keeping on top of it has become a part-time job in itself. If something has changed, opened, or closed since your last visit, the best move is to check the venue's Instagram directly or ask someone on the ground.

That said, this is the most complete guide to fitness in Kuta, Lombok that exists right now. We'll keep updating it. And if we've missed something worth knowing about, drop us a message; we'd genuinely love to hear about it.
