Many surfers will be familiar with Kuta, Lombok with its surrounding beaches and surf breaks. However, this cute coastal town is increasingly popular with digital nomads and holiday-makers. For them (and surfers when the waves aren’t good), new options are opening throughout Kuta for staying fit and living a healthy lifestyle. Whether you’re a seasoned gym bunny or looking for a healthy activity on holiday, here are your fitness options in Kuta, Lombok.

Yoga and Pilates in Kuta, Lombok

Mana Retreat Lombok

Nestled in the centre of town, this eco-retreat centre has it all. Two yoga shalas, a delicious cafe, a pool, a spa and rooms cater to all budgets. The yoga schedule has four to five classes a day, giving you the flexibility to fit the classes around whatever else you have on that day. Make a day of it and have a delicious meal in their cafe as you finish class.

Check out their website to see their range of special events. These include cacao ceremonies, women's circles and yoga teacher trainings. If you’re looking for something more relaxing, they also show movies each night.

Ashtari Yoga

Ashtari Yoga boasts some of the best coastal views on the island. Perched high above Kuta, this venue contains a yoga shala, a delicious restaurant, a cooking school, an event space and rooms to stay.

You will need to make it up the hill to reach Ashtari, which can be intimidating on a scooter in the dark or if it’s raining. However, they do offer a shuttle service if you book ahead.

The food here is grown locally and beautifully prepared. They offer local dishes as well as Indian-inspired plates.

Maru Pilates

As Kuta expands, so do the fitness options! The new kid on the block is Maru Pilates. Located above Loka gym, this boutique studio is gorgeous. There’s nothing quite like the burn of a reformer Pilates session. Their schedule is packed with classes but some do get booked out, so lock in your spot early.

Gyms in Kuta, Lombok

Loka

Ready to sweat? Loka has you covered. They offer a range of classes, including Muy Thai and Hydrox. However, the best part of Loka is the additional amenities.

Onsite, they have a sauna, three ice plunge pools, and a magnesium salt pool—the perfect recovery centre whether you’ve been sweating it out at the gym or in the waves.

Their on-site cafe offers great food, too (try the protein toast or smoothie bowls!) and an all-you-can-eat barbecue on Sunday nights.

Bumblebee Gym

Do you like your gym to be simple? Bumblebee is for you. This pared-back space is filled with machines and a selection of free weights. There are fans around and large doors, so there is no air conditioning. But you came here to sweat, right?

At only Rp35,000 ($2.20 USD) a visit, this place is also a bargain. Here a bit longer? Sign up for a month for only Rp350,000 ($22 USD).

XenoFit

This has to be the most beautiful place in Kuta to work out. Designed by Bamboo Lab, this sprawling bamboo structure has plenty of space for your workouts but is more expensive than Bumblebee Gym and Loka.

Yes it’s pricey, but it does include all the classes, which Loka doesn’t. So if you’re looking for Hyrox, CrossFit, Yoga or Mat Pilates, then you should check out XenoFit.

There is also a small climbing wall, although shoe rental is not available; you must bring your own shoes. The cafe is a great place to refuel afterwards. There is a wellness centre on its way too.

Sports Centres in Kuta, Lombok

La Reunion, Padel

While Kuta doesn’t have a tennis court, it has the next best thing. A padel court. They’ve got everything you need to rent to get your swing on. Plus, the courts are shaded to save you from the sun.

They also host tournaments and social games, so you can meet some of the Kuta locals while you’re visiting.

Outdoor Activities in Lombok

Hiking Mount Rinjani

If you’re looking for a challenge, then Mount Rinjani certainly is it. Available as a range of multi-day hiking options, you will need to make sure you’re fit and healthy for this climb. Many hikers claim it’s one of the hardest hikes they’ve done.

Make sure you book with a reputable tour company. We like Green Rinjani because they focus on helping to remove rubbish on the trail and planting trees for all participants.

Run Clubs

Looking to get some miles in while you’re in Lombok? Make some friends at the same time at one of the three run clubs in town. Milk Espresso Run Club is on a Thursday, Bara departure is on a Tuesday and Xeno hosts a run on Saturday.
