Some places feel relaxing the moment you arrive. Others take time to reveal themselves. Dejama Glamping Resort was the former.

The resort is around a 30-minute drive from central Kuta Lombok, the main hub on the south Lombok coast. As we left town behind and followed the quieter country roads, the shift was immediate. We waved to farmers working their fields, the traffic thinned out, and by the time we arrived, it already felt like we’d travelled much further than we had.

The first thing we noticed wasn’t the design or the greenery — it was the quiet. A deep, settled peacefulness that’s increasingly rare. We could hear the birds singing. We were warmly welcomed with a refreshing drink and a cool towel, perfect for washing away the dust of the journey. It was a small but thoughtful touch that set the tone for the stay.

Our Bungalow Stay

We stayed in one of the bungalows, and it felt perfectly in tune with the surroundings. The space was dark and cosy in the best way — cool, calming, and intentionally designed. It felt like a room designed for rest rather than distraction.

Our private balcony looked out over the garden and became a favourite place to slow down, especially in the mornings. We could sit quietly and listen to the soothing birdsong while we sipped our tea.

The Pool: Where Time Slows Right Down

The pool area quickly became the heart of our stay.

The water was surprisingly warm and incredibly inviting, and the surrounding space was beautifully thought out. There were large swing seats, shaded loungers, and plenty of spots to settle in for hours at a time. Whether floating, reading, or doing very little at all, it was the perfect place to unwind.

Even when plans changed, this space more than made up for it.

Spa Treatments Worth Making Time For

We both booked massages during our stay, and they were genuinely excellent.

I chose a traditional Lombok massage with firm pressure, which released far more tension than I expected. Kieron opted for an aloe vera massage, which was gentler and deeply relaxing. Both treatments felt unrushed and intuitive — the kind you leave feeling noticeably lighter.

Food & Drinks: Vegetarian-First, Thoughtful, and Fresh

The entire menu at Dejama is vegetarian, which is a bold choice for any resort — and one that largely pays off.

For non-vegetarians, fish is available, but this isn’t the place to expect steak or heavy meat dishes. One evening, Kieron ordered a king prawn special, which was easily some of the best seafood he’s had. Breakfasts were a highlight, especially the homemade granola, and we also loved the local coconut-based desserts.

Some dishes were stronger than others, but the drinks were consistently excellent. Fresh, vibrant, and clearly made with care. We watched staff head into the garden to pick herbs for our mocktails — a small detail that summed up the experience. We tried almost every drink on the menu, and not one disappointed.

Location & Remoteness: A Feature, Not a Flaw

Dejama’s location is intentionally removed from the buzz of Kuta Lombok, and that’s both its strength and its trade-off.

This is a place designed for slowing down. If you’ve been busy surfing, climbing Mount Rinjani, or moving constantly, it’s an ideal spot to do very little at all. Long swims, slow meals, massages, and early nights come naturally here.

That said, if you do want to explore, the team are more than happy to help organise tours, transport, and activities. You’re never stuck — but you are gently encouraged to rest.

A Walk to Dondon Beach

We walked down to Dondon Beach, which is a lovely journey in itself — through fields, across farmland, and through a local village.

The beach, however, sits near a harbour area and was heavily affected by plastic at the time of our visit. We chose not to spend the day there, which was a little disappointing, but it’s worth setting expectations. Thankfully, the pool area more than made up for it, and we never felt short-changed.

The People Who Make It Special

What stayed with us most was the staff.

They were warm, chatty, and genuinely welcoming, taking time to talk with us and show us around the garden where many of the vegetables and herbs are grown. Knowing that the same ingredients end up on your plate or in your glass added a deeper sense of connection to the place.

It felt personal, grounded, and thoughtful.
